What is a "Kid Friendly" Hotel?
This page contains our suggestions for Hotels for your Family's consideration. Visit the MGM MIRAGE - Kid Friendly Hotels page for a list of current promotions featuring many of the Hotels listed on this page.
Defining "Kid Friendly Hotel"
"Kid Friendly" is really the same as "Family Friendly". So what makes a Hotel Family friendly? There is a saying in Las Vegas that is a bit worn, but always true - this isn't Disney Land.
Family friendly means Children are accommodated and services are provided to meet your family's needs. Think of Children in Las Vegas Hotels more as "allowed", rather than "invited". Hotels listed here do in fact "want" your vacation dollars and they will do what is needed, but don't expect them to go above and beyond. It's just how it is... we wish it were better too.
Again you must realize Vegas is an Adult Destination. With the exception of some fast food cafe type eateries, there are very few businesses on the Strip that openly cater openly to Children. Get off "The Strip" and Las Vegas is like any other South West American City. Get out to resort areas like Lake Las Vegas and you may enjoy yourself more as it's more "normal" vacation experience.
Child friendly also has little to do with being treated with courtesy... all Hotel Staff should treat ALL guests with courtesy regardless - thats just good business.
KidsinVegas.com Tips:
- Check the REAL Hotel Websites for "Special Offers". Many people overlook them an they are right in front of their eyes! You often get additional "Perks" by booking direct with the Hotel Website.
- Use the "Guest Reviews" tab on Hotels.com and the "Travelers Opinion" tab at Expedia to see how others enjoyed their experience at the Hotel Property you are considering. You'll find the link to these and other Online Consolidators on our "Deals" page.
- Book a Monday arrival and Friday departure for cheapest rates. Weekends always cost more.
Las Vegas Hotels to consider for Family's...
These Hotels are all on "The Strip"
MGM Grand Resort Hotel - If your kids love the water they will be estatic withe MGM's Grand Pool complex featuring 5 swimming pools, 3 whirlpools, plus a river all surrounded by lush foliage, bridges, fountains and waterfalls. Unlike other resorts at least 1 pool and whirlpool is open everyday year round. Check their webiste and click on "Grand Pool Complex" for more information. Choose from 11 different types of rooms and suites; surly there is something for everyone from ordinary travelers to high rollers. Home to the "Lion Habitat" exhibit. Terriffic location on South End of the Strip. Very large resort 5,000+ rooms so please don't let your Kids roam the halls unattended. Be sure to click on the "Special Offers" tab on their site as they offer a variety of incentives from discount room rates to restaurant/dining credits. Website: MGM Grand
Four Seasons & Mandalay Bay - Mandalay has an awesome swimming area featuring 3 Swimming Pools, a wave pool, sandy beach (Yes 2,700 tons of real sand!), lazy river, and more. We've had members of our own family choose to stay here (No pool at our house) with Kids ages 7 and 5 and they loved it! While dad is at the pool with the kids mom can pamper herself at the Bathouse Luxury Spa. Mandalay Bay also features the "Shark Reef" - 1.6 million gallon aquarium, with you guessed it SHARKS! For families familiar with the Four Seasons resort, it's actually a part of the Mandalay Bay complex. Different Entrances, different service levels, same location (Odd we know). A bit far south for little feet to walk. Older Children and Teens shouldn't have a problem. Website: Mandalay Bay
NY NY Las Vegas - A deluxe class casino hotel, located a very short distance from McCarran Airport on the south end of the "Strip". One of the first Landmark Las Vegas Hotels and an excellent location. If you promise not to tell we'll let you in on a Secret... this is where we often park out in the back lot when we want to shoot new photographs of "The Strip". It's an easy point of entry and exit with access to all the prime resorts. This is where the Roller Coaster is located (Ask about 2 for 1 tickets when you check in). Website: New York New York
Excalibur- A good south strip location combined with a large video game arcade for you Children to enjoy. Their site offers a "Virtual Tour" of the Midway Arcade so you can check it out with your family before your Las Vegas Trip. Be sure to check out the Spongebob Squarepants 4D ride too (Kids have to be 42" tall to ride). Website: Excalibur
Circus Circus - Family-oriented, casino hotel uniquely comprised of three multi-story towers connected by a sky shuttle. The hotel is located on the north end of the Strip, 1/4 mile from the Convention Center. Circus Circus is the fifth largest hotel in the world, and features America's largest indoor theme park, The Adventure Dome housing the world's only double-loop indoor roller coaster. The West Tower is closest to the Adventure Dome. Offers some of the cheapest rates on The Strip. This is a love/hate place for visitors. If you don't plan on spending much time in your room and looking for a low cost Vegas Trip, then go for it. Savvy travelers will appreciate the amenities at the more upscale Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand. Website: Circus Circus
Luxor - No family vacation to Las Vegas will be complete without EXPERIENCING the IMAX theatres (7 Story Screen - 30,000 Watt Sound System - See our Attractions page for info). Situated in the "Best" part of the strip within easy walking distance of New York New York, MGM Grand, and the Paris. With 2,256 nicely appointed rooms, excellent location, and plenty of family entertainment you may want to make the Luxor your base of family operations! Luxor is a little "worn out" in our opinion, but again family friendly. Website: Luxor
Monte Carlo Hotel - Really good location for exploring activities at other resorts, decent pools, well worth considering if the price is right. There is nothing of particular interest to children on site. Website: Monte Carlo
Stratosphere - Plan a rental car for sure! Little feet will not be able to walk the very long distance from the Stratosphere to the other resorts. This Hotel is on the far North end of "The Strip" and it's simply not practical to walk miles back and forth to the resorts in the "Heart of The Strip". For those of you who have been to Las Vegas before you know; for those who have not... you'll have to take our word for it. Features the Insanity, X-scream, and Big Shot thrill rides. We wouldn't stay there just for the rides, but if rides are your thing then you will surly want to visit. Website: Stratosphere
Off "The Strip" Locations...
Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas Resort - Located East of Henderson about 17 miles off "The Strip" the Ritz-Carlton is pricy ($300+ per night an up) and potentially worth it. Probably the nicest Resort Setting in Las Vegas. Website: Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas
The Orleans - Another kid friendly Las Vegas Hotel where families can enjoy many activities - The Orleans. This is a great Vegas Family Vacation Hub. An awesome bowling center (70 lanes), Orleans arena - look for Kid's events like Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey, Kids Tyme Childcare center, off strip location (2 miles west of the strip), 18-plex movie theatre with 4,800 stadium style seats and THX certified sound on all screens, the Time Out Arcade complete with games for every member of the family, spa and fitness center. Children have their own pool, and supervised children's activities are available. We think this is a great place to stay. Website: Orleans
